GrowRVA Farmer's Market Coming to Eastern Hanover
March 1, 2013
Market will kick off at Historic Polegreen Church on June 18 for a ten-week run ending August 6
Historic Polegreen Church Foundation announces a new partnership with GrowRVA that brings an often requested farmer's market to Hanover County. The market will be held Tuesday afternoons from four o'clock to seven o'clock at the Historic Polegreen Church site, located at 6411 Heatherwood Drive in Mechanicsville, Virginia. The market will kick off on June 18 for a ten-week run ending August 6.
The market will host a multitude of vendors and feature local produce from Hanover County. Market-goers will also be encouraged to walk around and enjoy the historic site, including the silhouette structure of the church and the Timeline of Religious Freedom.
Chris Peace, Executive Director of the Historic Polegreen Church Foundation, notes the importance of utilizing the historic site, listed on the National Register of Historic Places, for this opportunity. "Over the years, Polegreen has expanded our mission and acreage to accommodate increased visitorship and to best interpret our historically significant story. This farmer's market provides a unique chance for Hanover residents and visitors to take advantage of produce grown in their backyard, while also taking advantage of the history in their backyard."
The partnership is a natural fit for GrowRVA, as well. GrowRVA connects local farms, local food, and local arts with Richmond-area communities. The organization develops partnerships with cultural institutions and historic sites such as Historic Polegreen Church, while promoting sustainability and healthy food options.
